Privacy policy

This policy explains what EnergyCalcHQ collects, why, and what you can do about it.

This site is operated by Divakar B, who is the data controller for the information described below.

What the calculators send us

Nothing, until you choose to send it. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The loads, voltages, cable sizes and consumption figures you type are not transmitted anywhere as you work, and refreshing the page discards them.

There is one deliberate exception, and it only happens if you act on it. Some calculators offer a form to send your result to us as an enquiry. If you fill that form in and submit it, the figures from that calculation are sent and stored along with your contact details — that is the point of the form, so we can reply about the job in question. Nothing is sent if you do not submit it.

Information you send through forms

Three forms on this site collect information, and all three are voluntary:

  • Calculator enquiry forms. Your name and email, and optionally phone, company and anything you write in the “anything we should know” box, together with the figures from the calculation you had just run.
  • The contact form. Your name, email, subject and message.
  • Article comments. The name you post under and your comment, both of which are published if approved, plus your email address, which is not published and is used only to reply. Comments are held for review before appearing.

This information is stored in a hosted database provided by Supabase, who process it on our behalf. We do not sell it, and we do not add you to a mailing list.

If you email us instead, we keep that correspondence so we can reply and track corrections.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and contact messages are kept for up to two years so we can follow up and keep a record of corrections that were reported to us. Approved comments stay published with the article until you ask us to remove them. Ask us to delete any of it sooner and we will.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard server log information: IP address, browser type and version, pages requested, referring page and timestamp. This is used to keep the site running and to diagnose faults. It is not used to identify individual visitors.

Cookies and advertising

This site uses third-party advertising to cover its hosting costs. We partner with Google AdSense to serve those advertisements.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.

Third-party ad servers may also use cookies, web beacons or similar technologies in the advertisements they serve. These are sent directly to your browser and we do not control them or have access to what they collect. This policy does not cover the practices of those third parties; consult their own privacy policies for details. Google's own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, ask for a copy of it, or object to how we use it. Write to divarj2@gmail.com and we will action it. We do not charge for this and we will not ask you to justify the request.

These rights apply to everyone who writes to us, wherever they live. The two paragraphs below say where they come from in law for two groups of readers who are often told to look for them by name, and what is specifically true for each.

EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR). Our lawful basis for the form data is your consent, given by submitting the form, and you may withdraw it at any time; for server logs it is our legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your national supervisory authority without coming to us first.

California (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We should be precise about the other word, because it is defined more broadly than it sounds: sharing under the CPRA covers disclosure for cross-context behavioural advertising, and personalised advertising on this site meets that definition. The two opt-out links in the advertising section above are how you stop it. Nothing you send us through a form is disclosed to an advertiser in any case — those are separate systems, and the figures from your calculations never reach one.

India (DPDP Act). The same requests go to the same address. If we cannot resolve one to your satisfaction you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The calculators will continue to work normally with cookies disabled, because they do not depend on them.

Children

This site is aimed at working engineers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
